GO NUTS!

We were thirsty and it was Thursday-- a match made in heaven! 

Yesterday was a beautiful day and the Lansing Lugnuts had a home game and it was Thirsty Thursday. Our friends Shad and Jake (who go to dental school at University of Michigan) were in town helping another guy we know from Idaho move into an apartment here in East Lansing. He was on our intramural volleyball team and went to ISU; now he's going to medical school at MSU. Another Idaho connection here in Michigan! 


We all went to the baseball game last night with another friend Casey. It was a great night!

After that, we walked over to a bar that had dueling pianos and listened to them play for awhile... very cool! (this is where my picture taking skills failed)


Then, of course we had to head downstairs to watch the end of the basketball game. I had been watching updates on my phone all night but I had to see the end! GO LAKERS!!

Spartan Stadium and Lansing Lugnuts

While Mikel was at work on Sunday, I showed my parents around campus. We decided to see if we could get into Spartan Stadium (although we weren't holding our breath) and after telling us that the building was closed, a maintenance employee changed his mind and gave us a tour.

He was nice enough to take us all the way to the top floor, although he wasn't really supposed to, where all the press sits during the game! We were so sad that Mikel couldn't be there so I was sure to take a bunch of pictures and a quick video so he could see it.

This is the view of the outdoor track and field hockey stadium as well as Munn Field where we hold outdoor soccer classes and other activities. This is the outdoor pool and right behind it Munn Ice Arena where the hockey team plays.
The stadium can hold over 80,000 fans!!

We also went to a Lansing Lugnuts game when they played the Dayton Dragons. They didn't win but it is fun to watch!

thirsty Thursday-- GO NUTS!!

We went to a Lugnuts game today with a group of the people Mikel works with at Sears. It was the first game we've gone to that the Lugnuts actually won!!

There was a beautiful weather and lots of students celebrating the end of the semester. Custom t shirts seem to be a big deal around here... groups of students get shirts printed and go on 'bar crawls'. They're usually by department and have something cleaver on the back like 'nurses need shots too' and weird engineering jokes; I've seen a lot of them in my activity classes. It seems like an expensive way to go out to the bar but to each their own.
There was a group at the baseball game in front of us of teachers with these shirts on- pretty funny...

crosstown showdown

Michigan State's baseball team played the local minor league team the Lansing Lugnuts (go nuts!!) in the crosstown showdown. This is apparently the third year in a row that they've had the game and the Lugnuts won the last two but MSU won 12-2!

It was a fun game and there were a TON of people. Luckily, it was a really nice day and it was Thursday so the 'Thirsty Thursday' $2 beers were quite popular!

They even found a way to get coach Izzo involved... he got a standing ovation at the game as he was announced as being the 1st base coach during the 3rd inning...


We had really good seats too! We were right behind third base and only 3 rows up! Unfortunately there were a lot of lefties who sprayed foul balls our direction but, don't worry, we escaped without losing any of our teeth!


This picture is Big Lug, the Lugnut mascot. We're not really sure what he is- it's like a purple and green spotted dinosaur walrus thing...

Most people had left by the bottom of the 9th inning when we took this picture but it's a pretty nice field!
