calling all calls

Mikel definitely loves a good project! When we first moved in, our garage was filled with STUFF. Boxes that needed to be unpacked, tubs of treasures, and everything else. 

We have since unpacked the boxes and organized the space so Mikel could use it. He built a work space in the back and has been making calls in his spare time.

As Mikel mentioned when I showed him the pictures, yes I could have moved them away from all his fly tying stuff but that seemed like a lot of work so I worked with what I was given!

What is this you ask? This is my dad's conquest.

While my mom and I were at my office, my dad and Mikel went to the shooting range. My dad's were the smaller shots (on the outside-- but hey, at least they hit the plate) and Mikel was a little closer to the makeshift target.

It was so much fun having our first visitors to help us explore our new city!

Looks good! And now the deer is not lonely on the wall all by itself!

April happenings

It is a crazy week around here finishing out the semester, turkey hunting, starting to pack, and surviving the crazy snow and rain we are having for weather.

Mikel has been out turkey hunting with Matt and Matt got a turkey the other day...

I am so done with this snow!!

Also, Mikel finally got back his deer mount from the deer he shot earlier this year.

He was very excited about how it turned out!

Annnnnddddddd, we're starting to pack. Nothing too serious yet, just a box here and there when we think of something that we don't need but it should make things easier when the time crunch starts...

Also, I can't believe that Mikel had never been to the MSU Dairy Store for lunch so we checked it out the other day. MSU makes all their own ice cream, cheese, and other dairy goodness so they sell grilled cheese and soup for lunch during the week. On Mondays, it is free tomato soup so you can get lunch for about $2.50.  Delicious!

Mikel was very happy that he was able to go hunting this year and even happier that he got something. This is the picture he sent me from his phone so there will be more to come!

Mikel's new toy

Mikel got a new bow! He is very excited about his new bow that he found a sweet deal on!

He has been shooting it a lot with his friend Matt (luckily, Matt has a backyard and a target and they also found a range at MSU where they can go and practice).

Obviously, he rolled his eyes at me when I asked to take a picture but he was a good sport!

Spring semester is finally over!! Last weekend I worked A LOT of graduations and since then I have been doing A LOT of relaxing!


Unlike ISU's one graduation ceremony, MSU has 19 different ceremonies in three different facilities over three days. It is crazy madness but makes for a lot of hours for me to work so I can't complain! 


Mikel has also been doing a lot of working; with the warming up of spring and summer, lawn mowers and other equipment are keeping him very busy! He did take a couple days off and go mushroom hunting with some friends from work. Although I didn't go this time, I think this is the only type of hunting I could do.... I don't have to actually kill anything, I don't have to be quiet, and I don't have to do it in the cold. That sounds way better than the other options! And they were camping... I love camping!

 They were looking for Morel mushrooms and found a lot! You can eat them; they are more substantive and meaty than other types of mushrooms but taste good. The texture of them get me a little bit but they're pretty good! They found three different kinds: white, black, and grey but apparently there are lots of different kinds. Besides the color, there is very subtle differences in taste but they're pretty much the same.

Mikel got the chance to go turkey hunting with a friend and, of course, said yes. He had never been turkey hunting before so was excited to go!!


He figures 100% success rate isn't too bad!
