Notre Dame trip-- part 4

Our last stop on our tour of Notre Dame was somewhat of an afterthought but definitely worth it. We stopped at an athletic facility that housed the ice hockey and basketball teams. We walked in by the ice hockey arena and then kept walking and saw the court where the basketball teams play. Behind the ice hockey rink was a multipurpose sport court type place where they could probably host things like gymnastics and wrestling as well.


The basketball facility was actually not as big as we thought it was going to be but it was a really nice. As compared to Breslin Center at MSU, it's not nearly as new, but is pretty cool to see the old wooden seats and it's always cool to see a court that you have seen on tv!!




Going upstairs from the basketball and hockey courts there was an entire foyer that was filled with sports history and memorabilia from Notre Dame. It had past and current pictures from all the different sports they sponsor. All of these Heismans were just some of the cool stuff we saw.

After we left the school we headed to check out the College Football Hall of Fame but it turned out to be closed for the day so we explored South Bend for awhile and then found a restaurant for dinner and enjoyed a relaxing night! I'll post pictures from the Hall of Fame next because it was a pretty cool place!

The rain and humidity wasn't too kind to my hair but this is us in front of the Administration building at Notre Dame. That is the building with the gold dome on top-- pretty nice for an Admin building!!
This is the library on campus and on the front is "touchdown Jesus"; at least that's what football fans call it, according to Brian and Katy.

The rest of these pictures are from inside the Basilica on Notre Dame's campus. It is absolutely beautiful and, according to Mikel, looks a lot like the Air Force Academy's Cadet Chapel that he saw on his trip this past summer.

thank goodness for spring break!

We started our visit at the bookstore and then got lunch at a cool restaurant right outside the football stadium (the sign above was outside the restaurant). It had a timeline of the university's football program all around the walls with cool pictures and memorabilia.
These are some more pictures from our weekend excursion. Brian and Katy took us all around campus; it's always nice to get a tour from people who know about the school rather than wandering around aimlessly!
All the buildings are so pretty and, even with a gloomy sky and bare trees, everything was beautiful!
We have lots more pictures of the Basilica and I will post them soon! We are definitely thankful for spring break and the opportunity to take these little excursions to explore the area because, after I graduate, who knows when we will be back around and able to visit!

Notre Dame trip

Since this week is spring break, we decided to take a little trip this weekend and visit Notre Dame. Brian and Katy go to grad school there and were on spring break as well so they were able to give us a tour around their school and go to lunch with us!
We took off following the directions from Rita (our GPS- that's what we named her). We figured it would be freeway the whole way but were pleasantly surprised to be on small highways through little towns most of the way there.

Being on a highway instead of a busy freeway allowed us to easily pull over and take a picture next to this sign. Mikel just humors me now and doesn't even protest when I make these strange requests! We were actually in a little small town when we saw this sign so I'm sure some of the local people just shake their head and laugh about the people from Idaho who pulled over in the rain to take a picture.This was a pretty lake with little houses around it in the middle of nowhere near the Michigan-Indiana line. We drove through some tiny little towns; the kind of towns in the middle of nowhere where scary movies are set! Luckily nothing scary happened while we were there!

It rained for all but about 3 hours while we were gone but luckily those 3 hours were when Brian and Katy were showing us around campus!

While we were gone we toured Notre Dame, went to the College Football Hall of Fame, saw a tiny little college and a lot of pretty places. We have tons of pictures so I'll post some more about our trip in the next few days!

math celebration!

It's square root day today!! I know you're all excited because it only happens nine times each century so I hope you're celebrating it with square potatoes or something!
I mentioned to my volleyball classes today that it was square root day today and I'm pretty sure they were really excited. They didn't act excited but I knew it was on the inside! They were just trying to act cool I'm sure. One student was headed to math class so I suggested he share this special day with his teacher.

I'm sure you can feel the anticipation... pi day is coming up!! Well, I have students taking a test in my office so I should probably go- happy square root day!
